Havlickova reaches consolation final at ITA Conference Masters

11.10.2024

ROME, Georgia – South Dakota women's tennis player Bea Havlickova advanced to the consolation title match at the ITA Conference Masters Championships that were completed Sunday at Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.

Havlickova, selected to the 30-player women's singles draw by the Summit League, posted a 3-2 mark over the four days of competition as the first Coyote selected to participate in the event.

"I am so proud of Bea for how she played and competed at the ITA Masters," head coach Brett Barnett said. "This was a great experience for her.

"Bea has had an unbelievable fall season and it showed in her play down here."

Havlickova dropped her opening round match to Richmond's Sofia Maria Barbulescu before going on a run in the consolation bracket.

She posted arguably the biggest win in the history of the Coyotes program during the Division I ear when she rallied from a set down to defeat the top seed and No. 39 ranked player nationally in San Diego's Claudia De Las Heras 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

"She lost to a very good Richmond girl and then went on a run in the consolation draw to reach the final," said Barnett. "Her win over the 1 seed and #39 in the country from San Diego is easily the best win ever by a Yote.

"It was fun watching her confidence grow and her knowing she can play and beat anyone."

Havlickova received a walkover in the quarterfinals before posting a straight-sets 6-0, 6-4 win in the semifinals over Lou Baudouin from Sacramento State.

Havlickova would fall in the consolation final to Nevada's Amahee Charrier 1-6, 3-6.

"She played a tricky player form Sacramento State and played smart and the style needed to win," added Barnett. "It didn't go her way against Nevada but she has nothing to be down about.

"She has made all of us proud and has put South Dakota on the national stage for the first time. I am excited to see everything that she will accomplish this spring."

Halickova's two official wins pushed her career total to 57 which moves her into solo possession of fourth on the school's Division I wins list.
