Coyotes sweep Summit League honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota swimming and diving team members Emily Kahn, Mady Schmidt, Charlie Matthews and Nick Rounds have been selected as the Summit League Peak Swimmers and Divers of the Week the league announced on Tuesday.

Kahn, a senior from Denver, Colorado, earns Women's Peak Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career. She raced to five first-place finishes and four Summit League leading times during the two-day Tommie Invitational. 

Kahn won both the 50 free (22.94) and 100 free (50.06) in Summit League leading times while also jumping to the top of the league in the 100 fly with her 55.10 clocking, that also ranks second in school history. She helped the Coyotes win three relays, the 200 free, 400 medley and 400 free with the 200 free relay clocking a Summit League leading time.

Schmidt, a junior, posted personal best scores on both diving events during the competition in earning her first Women's Peak Diver of the Week honor. The junior from Bemidji, Minnesota, scored 240.80 to win the one-meter board for her first individual win of the season. She also placed second on the three-meter board with a score of 248.90.

Matthews, a sophomore, earned his second career Men's Peak Diver of the Week honor, also posting personal best scores on both boards. The Overland Park, Kansas, native, earned his third individual win of the season with a 265.15 total on the one-meter board and scored 255.25 while placing second on the three-meter board. 

Rounds, a freshman from West Des Moines, Iowa, earns Men's Peak Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time this season. He is the only male athlete to be listed in the top five of Summit League charts in five different events. 

He won the 50 free for the fourth time in five races this season with a Summit League best of 20.27, a time that ranks fifth in school history. He added runner-up finishes in the 100 IM (50.50) and 100 back (48.88) and sits second in the Summit League in the 100 IM and fourth in the 100 back with his prelim time of 48.55. Rounds placed fourth in the 100 fly in 48.90 while his prelim time of 48.77 is good for fifth in the Summit League. He also helped the Coyotes win four relays, the 200 free, 400 medley, 200 medley and 200 free. 

South Dakota swept the team titles during its final competition of the first semester.
