RIO VERDE, Ariz.— South Dakota sits in a tie for eleventh place in a 21-team field after round one of the Rio Verde Invite in Rio Verde, Arizona.  Emma Henningsson leads the Yotes with a 1-under par 71, good for a tie for eighth place. The Coyotes had a team score of 14-over par. 
 
Henningsson played near the top of the field for most of the day after making birdies on consecutive holes.  She was the Coyotes' top finisher at their final two tournaments in the fall.
 
Freshman Ava Schroeder was next for USD with a 2-over par score of 74.  She finished tied for 29^th place.  She was very consistent on the day, hitting par on fourteen holes and knocking in two birdies.  Catie Nekola was two strokes behind Schroeder with a score of 4-over par 76. 
 
Ella Greenberg was tied for 84^th with a nine-over par score of 81.  Greenberg started out strong and was sitting at even par after a pair of birdies.  But she struggled a bit down the stretch.  Alexa Wingnean also featured for the Coyotes, she finished with a 13-over par score of 85.
 
South Dakota spent much of the day near the top of the leaderboard until a late run of bogeys saw them fall to the middle of the pack.  Utah Tech leads the team race at 1-under par.  Missouri State's Chayenne Chivrac leads individual race after round one with a 5-under par score of 67.
