VERMILLION, S.D. — The Coyote Cross Country teams will host their season opener on home grounds this year on Friday, August 30 at the Coyote Classic.
It marks the first race the Yotes have hosted since the 2017 season. The Coyote Classic Cross Country Invite will be held at The Bluffs Golf Course and will feature the SDSU Jackrabbits and the Mount Marty Lancers with the race beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Yotes are coming off a 2023 season high where they won the Summit League Championship that was hosted by South Dakota State in Brookings, South Dakota. Four out of USD's eight runners finished in the top ten of the 6k race, helping the team clench the first-place score of 50 points. They will have 14 women returning for the 2024 season, with an impressive group of nine freshmen.
The men ended their season at the Summit League Championships, with a team finish of fifth place overall. The Yotes have four new stand-out athletes, accompanied by the nine returning athletes going into the 2024 season.

After having an impressive 2023 season, USD's women's cross country team has been ranked 14th in the Midwest Region by the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country USTFCCCA Regional Coaches' Rankings.
