SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota men's golfer
Max Schmidtke has earned USD's first Summit League Peak Golfer of the Week honor this season and for the second time in his career.
Schmidtke turned in an impressive opening tournament, placing third at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational after carding a career-best 205 (-8). He fired back-to-back 66's (-5) on the first day of the tournament, ending the day at 10-under par. Schmidtke rolled in one eagle and four birdies in his first round and tallied six birdies in his second trip around the course.
Schmidtke tied for third in the 99-player field, leading the Coyotes to a seventh-place finish among 18 squads.
Schmidtke and the Coyotes will be back on the course on September 23 at Glen Oaks Country Club for the Zach Johnson Invitational in West Des Moines, Iowa.
