South Dakota drops first game in SCSC to North Dakota State

VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota basketball fell for the first time in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center this season, 103-77 to North Dakota State Saturday.

Isaac Bruns led a Coyote squad that had five players score in double-figures for the third straight game with 17 points. Chase Forte added 15 points and six rebounds, while Mayuom Buom had 13 points and four boards off the bench. Shey Eberwein (12) and Kaleb Stewart (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

Jacari White led the Bison with 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting with five 3-pointers. For the game, NDSU shot .574 percent from the field with 11 triples.

In a fast paced first half of action, the Yotes connected on an efficient 17-of-30 fields goal attempts, but NDSU was red-hot in the opening 20 shooting 22-for-31 (71.0%) from the floor. The Yotes took a 15-11 lead following an 11-2 run, with all five buckets in the run coming from five different Coyotes. A 7-0 run from the Bison at the halfway point of the first half flipped the momentum in favor of NDSU, who would hold the lead for the remainder of the game. The Yotes would pull within one, 32-31, with 6:31 in the first half after a bucket from Buom, but the Bison would extend their lead to 10 three minutes later and would take a 12-point lead into the intermission.

NDSU outscored the Yotes 17-6 over the first seven minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 23. South Dakota responded with a 16-4 run over the next four minutes to pull within 11, 75-64, following back-to-back and-ones from Buom and Forte. The Bison, however, would score the next 14 points to push their lead back to 20+ points and would close out the 103-77 win.

South Dakota will hit the road next week starting on Thursday night against North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
