VERMILLION, S.D. — Trips to Texas, Louisiana, Virginia and South Carolina along with several new opponents highlight South Dakota's 2025 softball schedule announced Thursday by head coach Robert Wagner.

The season starts Feb. 7 at a tournament in Commerce, Texas for the first of two appearances at East Texas A&M University in February. The first weekend includes Texas Southern and Stephen F. Austin.

A five-game weekend in Hammond, Louisiana at an event hosted by Southeastern Louisiana is on tap for weekend two before the Coyotes return to Commerce, Texas to face Prairie View A&M along with the host East Texas A&M in weekend three.

A weekend in Virginia with doubleheaders against Hampton and Norfolk State along with a single game against UMass Lowell mark the final weekend before Spring Break, which sees the Coyotes traveling to South Carolina. A three-game series each with Coastal Carolina and Wofford are sandwiched around single games against Presbyterian and USC Upstate.

The Coyotes will be facing nine of the 15 teams on the non-conference slate for the first time ever and only two (Drake, Southeastern Louisiana) of the other six have they played more than twice in school history. The nine new opponents include – Stephen F. Austin, Mississippi Valley State, UTSA, Prairie View A&M, Hampton, Norfolk State, Coastal Carolina, Presbyterian and Wofford.

The Summit League slate begins with back-to-back home series at Nygaard Field against North Dakota (March 22-23) and St. Thomas (March 29-30).

South Dakota's final non-conference game, at Drake on April 2, begins a stretch of 10 straight on the road with three-game conference series at South Dakota State, Omaha and North Dakota State proceeded the final weekend of the regular season, a home series with Kansas City.

South Dakota State will host the Summit League tournament, slated for May 7-10, that will see the top six teams in the final regular season standings, qualify for.

The Coyotes were 23-30 in 2024 and return six starters and three of four pitchers who saw innings as Wagner begins his ninth season at the helm.
