VERMILLION, S.D. — The nation's Division I (FBS + FCS) leading rusher
L.J. Phillips Jr. has earned the Walter Camp Game Ball this week for his performance at Indiana State on Saturday, announced by Gridiron1880 Network.
The Wichita native posted his fourth career 100-yard game with 187 yards on 34 carries. Phillips Jr. continues to pace the entire Division I level (FBS + FCS) in rushing yards with 986 yards on 141 carries this season, through seven games. He's second in carries (141), second in rushing yards per game (140.9), and tied second in rushing touchdowns (11); while also sitting seventh in yards per rush (6.99).
He now sits at 986 and hunts down being the third-ever Coyote to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season and would be the first time it's been done by a Yote back in consecutive seasons. It's also the second time this season he's had 30+ carries in a game since he ran the ball 35 times for his nation's leading 301-yard game against Northern Colorado on September 13.
