Farris repeats as Summit League Defensive Player of the Year

11.22.2025

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota volleyball's Kamryn Farris was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year and was joined on the All-Summit League First team by Lauren Medeck, as announced by the Summit League Saturday.

A trio of Coyotes were named to the All-Summit League Second Team in Avery Van Hook, Morgan Bode and Amanda Loschen. After appearing in all 16 conference matches with eight starts as a freshman, Ava Ball earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.

Farris becomes the fifth player in Summit League history to win consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honors, and first since 2018-19 when South Dakota alum Anne Rasmussen won the award in back-to-back years. Farris is also a two-time All-Summit League First Team selection. She was named the Summit League Kwik Star Defensive Peak Performer of the week five times this season, including in four of the first five weeks.

Farris was the only player in the Summit League to average over 4.0 digs per set during the conference season at 4.33 and paced the conference with 273 digs. She totaled double-digit digs in 14 of 16 conference matches, reached the 20+ dig mark six times and had two double-doubles (assists/digs). During the second half of league play, where the Yotes put together a 7-1 record, Farris totaled 138 digs for a 4.45 digs per set average and had 10 aces. She eclipsed the 500-dig mark this season for the second straight year and ranks No. 24 in the NCAA with 504 and No. 33 in digs per set at 4.67. Under Farris' leadership as the lone senior, the Coyotes rank No. 19 in the NCAA in digs per set (16.56) and No. 21 in total digs (1,788).

Farris ranks No. 4 in the South Dakota record book and No. 13 in Summit League history with 1,759 career digs.

Medeck was named to the All-Summit League First Team for the first time after being an All-Freshman Team honoree last year. Despite missing five matches during the conference slate due to injury, Medeck still ranked No. 15 in the league with 153 kills. She was No. 4 in kills per set at 3.64, swung at a .220 rate and was No. 4 with a 4.05 points per set average. Prior to her injury, Medeck was on a tear with nine straight double-digit kills matches, including a pair of 20-kill matches in wins at Omaha and North Dakota State, and held a 3.81 kills per set and 4.22 points per set average. Medeck also ranked No. 16 in the Summit League averaging 2.33 digs per set.

Van Hook earned her third All-Summit League recognition of her career after being named to the All-Freshman Team in her first season at USD and was an All-League Honorable Mention last year. She was No. 2 in the conference with 620 assists in 16 matches with a 9.84 assists per set average. She tied her career-high of 58 assists in a win at Omaha where she also had 16 digs, six kills, two aces and three blocks. She recorded a double-double in 12 conference matches (assists/digs) and has had a double-double in each of the last six matches. One of the best in the Summit League at calling her own number, Van Hook led all Summit League setters with 61 kills during league play. She guided the Yotes to the No. 4 hitting percentage in the league at .232 and the team was tied for second in kills per set (13.33). Van Hook had seven conference matches where she averaged 10.0+ assists per set, and on the full season she ranked No. 36 in the NCAA in assists per set (10.16) and No. 12 in total assists (1,095). She ended the regular season as one of three players in the country to total over 1,000 assists, 300 digs and 100 kills.

Bode collects her second All-League honor after being named to the All-Freshman Team last year alongside Medeck. She was No. 3 on the squad with 145 kills in league play on a .278 hitting percentage and paced the team with 66.0 blocks (12 solo). Early in the conference season, Bode was a force at the net setting a new four-set program record with 13 blocks (3 solo) at Denver, which is tied for the third most in a four-set match across the NCAA this season. She was No. 5 in the league with 66.0 blocks and a 1.05 blocks per set average. Bode tallied six matches with double-digit kills and eight with 4.0+ blocks, while posting the ninth best hitting percentage at .278 and ranking No. 19 in kills per set (2.38).

Loschen was named to the All-Summit League Second Team for the first time in her career. She made her presence felt at the net routinely as she held the No. 4 hitting percentage in league play with a .347 swing rate and tallied 131 kills, while also ranking No. 8 in the league with 55 blocks (8 solo). Loschen was No. 14 in blocks per set (.85) and No. 23 in kills per set (2.02). She was efficient at the net throughout the conference season with eight matches hitting above .300, six at .400+ and four matches at a .500+ clip. She had five double-digit kill matches and seven matches with 4.0+ blocks.

Ball was named to the All-Freshman Team after leading the Yotes in kills (154) during Summit League play. Ball appeared in all 16 matches and made eight starts and stepped into an expanded role for the Yotes in the middle of league play where she delivered a career-high 17 kills on a .300 hitting percentage at South Dakota State. Ball ranked No. 3 among Summit League freshmen in kills and had eight matches with 10+ kills. She closed out the regular season on a high note by leading the Yotes with 13 kills on a .478 swing rate in a sweep of NDSU.
