Yotes recap fall season and prepare for spring competitions

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Coyotes wrapped up their fall golf outing in late October with a trip to the Powercat Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. This fall, the team traveled to five tournaments and came home with three top-five team finishes and seven top-five individual finishes. 
 
AS A TEAM
South Dakota averaged a 303.15 per round (per four-player team) in their fall campaign, with a low round of 290. 
 
The team low came in round two of the Redbird Invitational on September 7 and earned the Yotes a second place finish overall in the invite out of the 16 attending teams. The Redbird Invitational was the Coyotes' best performance of the fall, with round scores of 295, 290, and 295 to give them a 54 hole score of 880 (+16). 
 
The team also placed second in the NDSU Invitational, scoring a 604 (+28) over two rounds of play. The other top-five finish was when South Dakota tied for third in the Diane Thomason Invitational with a three round score of 906 (+42). 
 
INDIVIDUALLY
Ella Greenberg had a very competitive outing for the Coyotes' fall season. She earned a third, fourth, and T-fifth place finish over the five fall tournaments. At the Redbird Invitational, she carded scores of 71, 74, and 72 to give her a 217 (+1) over three rounds of play. Her performance was good enough for third place out of 91 golfers. 
 
Ella placed fourth at the Diane Thomason Invitational out of the 90 competing athletes. With round scores of she started with her season low of 70, then scored 75 and 74 to give her a 219 (+3) on the tournament. Most recently, Ella shot a 79, 72, and 74 at the Powercat Invitational to score a 225 (+9) to tie for fifth out of 80 golfers. 
 
Ella holds the lowest average score per round on the team with a 74.31 and has not had a round over 79 (+7) this season (all rounds being par 72). She received weekly Summit League honors on October 23 for her performance in the Powercat Invitational. 
 
Catie Nekola also had a lot of success for the Coyotes this fall, bringing in two top-five finishes. She tied for third out of 25 golfers at the NDSU Invitational with rounds scores of 71 and 79 to give her a 150 (+6) in the two round tournament.  
 
Catie then placed second in the Redbird Invitational out of 91 athletes. She golfed a round of 74 then two rounds of 71 to give her a score of 216 (E) in the tournament. This score earned her weekly Summit League honors on September 11. 
 
Over 13 rounds this fall, Catie has an average score of 75.69 per round with three rounds played under par. 
 
Eva Greenberg was a top-five finisher when she tied for fifth at the NDSU Invitational. With two rounds of 76, she was +8 on the tournament. 
 
The last top-five placement was Ava Schroeder, who tied with Eva at NDSU. Ava also golfed two rounds of 76 in Fargo. 
 
THE SPRING SEASON
USD will return to tournament play in the new year, starting with the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on February 20-22 (Friday-Sunday). The tournament will be played in Rio Verde, Ariz. at the Rio Verde Country Club on the Quail Run course. 
 
They later travel to Camarillo, Calif., Branson, Mo., Omaha, Neb., and Mesa, Ariz.
