Coyotes win two events on day one of Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – Lydia Knapp and Anna Willis win event titles Friday night at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska.
 
Knapp won the women's weight throw by tying her season's best mark of 65-5 ½ (19.95m). Kenzie Gray, competing unattached this winter, took second with a mark of 64-6 ½ (19.67m) and Delaney Smith took seventh at 62-5 ¼ (19.03m).
 
Willis reached a new personal record Friday night as well. She won the pole vault with a mark of 14-6 ¼ (4.43m). That height ranks No. 11 in Division I and moves her into fourth in USD history indoor. Marleen Mulla, competing unattached, cleared 14-0.
 
In the men's pole vault, Tre Young matched his season's best with 16-10 ¾ (5.15m) to placed third. Teammates Eerik Haamer, Spencer Buley, and Wyatt Stewart also cleared that bar Friday night to place fourth through sixth. Stewart tied his personal best with the clearance.
 
On the track in the preliminary races, Ethan Baessler advanced to the finals with a time of 6.76 seconds in the 60-meters. Jaden Damiano ran 7.93 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to make the finals. In the 60-meter hurdles for the women, Averi Schmeichel and Sophie Amin made the finals with times of 8.51 and 8.67 respectively.
 
The Coyotes are back on the track Saturday for day two starting at 11 a.m. in Lincoln.
