SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Following the 5-2 win over the University of Connecticut last week, the Summit League named
Sorcha Caves the Women's Tennis Singles Peak Performer of the Week following her match-clinching victory at No. 2 singles, the Summit League announced Tuesday afternoon.
Caves, a sophomore from Glasgow, Scotland, picked up her first-career dual victory at No. 2 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over UConn's Maria Constantinou at Huether Family Match Pointe last Friday (Feb. 27). The victory also secured with the Coyote win over the foe from the Big East, as the Coyotes would dominate singles in the 5-2 team victory.
"It is great that the Summit League has recognized Sorcha as the Peak Performer of the Week. She has been playing a high-level of tennis for us all year," noted head coach
Brett Barnett. "She came up huge for us against UCONN clinching the win and beating a very strong player in the process. I'm proud of all the work she has put in and it is nice seeing her recognized for it."
On the season, Caves sits 4-4 in dual matches this year and 3-3 in doubles play.
The Coyotes open up Summit League play on Friday in their lone match of the week when they make the trip down to Omaha to battle the Mavericks at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 7.
Caves collects her first career Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honor, joining
Bea Havlickova and
Selena Bird as the other Coyotes to earn league honors so far this season.
