SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota softball had nine players named to the All-Summit League teams Tuesday morning, as announced by the league office.
Clara Edwards and
Ella McGee highlight the Coyote honorees landing on the All-League First Team, followed by
Abi Brown,
Tatum Villotta,
Rylie Jones,
Madison Evans,
McKenna Young and
Autumn Iversen on the second team and
Delaney White who was an honorable mention.
Edwards earned all-league honors for the fourth time in her career as a Coyote and was named to the first team as a pitcher for the second time (2023). Edwards made eight starts and 10 appearances in league play and held a 3-5 record with a 3.26 ERA. Edwards tallied four shutouts and a team-high 58.0 innings pitched in conference games and struck out 29. Edwards also held a .244 batting average with a triple, one double, a homerun and six RBIs.
In her freshman season, McGee was named to the All-Summit League First Team after starting in all 18 conference games for the Coyotes. McGee posted a .345 batting average, which ranked No. 12 in the conference, and was second on the team with 20 hits. She had four extra base hits with a double, one triple and two homeruns to go with nine RBIs and 16 runs scored. McGee had six multi-hit games in league play.
Young earned her first all-league honor after leading the Coyotes and ranking No. 2 in the conference with 53 strikeouts in the league slate. Young appeared in 11 games with nine starts and held a 3.52 ERA in 47.2 innings of work. Young tossed five complete games, with a pair of shutouts. She recorded 10+ strikeouts once in league play with 10 in a complete game shutout win over North Dakota on March 22.
Villotta earns second team honors for the third time in her career and for the second straight year. Villotta started in every game this season for the Yotes and carried a .311 batting average in league play. She tallied 19 hits, three RBIs, three doubles and scored 11 runs. Villotta tied for the team lead with 63 total hits on the season and carried a 17-game hit streak early in the season. She became the 10
th player in program history to reach 200 career hits against Drake on April 5.
Brown led the Yotes in league play and was No. 3 in the conference with a .447 batting average. She appeared in 17 games and started 15 behind the plate for the Yotes. Brown tied for the team lead with two home runs to go with six RBIs, five doubles and 17 hits. She also led the Yotes with a .737 slugging percentage and a .512 on-base percentage.
Jones was named to the all-league team for the first time in her Coyote career after posting a .365 batting average. She started at shortstop in all 18 league games and recorded 19 hits, four doubles, 10 runs, one homerun and 10 RBIs, which tied for second on the squad. Jones had five games with multiple hits and had an eight-game conference hitting streak in the middle of the league schedule.
Iversen started and patrolled center field in all 18 games for the Yotes and held a .273 batting average. She drove in a team high 13 RBIs which tied for No. 9 in the conference. Iversen blasted one home run and had five doubles with eight runs scored in league play. She tallied multiple RBIs in four games and three contests with multiple hits.
Evans was named to the second team as a designated player/utility as a freshman after appearing in all 18 games with 15 starts. Evans held a .327 batting average in league play and tallied 17 hits with two double and one triple with seven RBIs. Evans had five multi-hit games, including a 3-for-4 game with three RBIs in the conference opener against North Dakota on March 22.
White earned a spot on the all-league teams for the third straight year and was named an honorable mention for the second year in a row. White was second on the team in league play with a .404 batting average and led the Yotes with 23 hits. She notched 10 RBIs, three doubles and scored eight runs. White had seven multi-hit games in league play and four games with multiple RBIs.
The Coyotes are the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament and will face No. 6 Kansas City on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Brookings, South Dakota.
