RECAP: Coyotes Finish Strong at Augustana Invite

09.14.2025

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The South Dakota Women's Tennis team concluded a weekend at the Augustana Invite, held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The tournament marked the team's first competition of the season under new leadership.

South Dakota showed promise throughout the weekend, competing with grit and determination in both singles and doubles play.

DAY 2

Selena Bird had an impressive outing, securing a dominant 8-1 victory in singles. She also claimed two wins in doubles matches, partnering with a player from Summit League rival Omaha due to injuries on both teams that led to unique pairings.

Natalia Alves De Lima advanced to the finals of her singles bracket after a strong performance throughout the tournament. In the final match, she put up a solid fight but ultimately fell short, losing 6-3, 6-3.

Ketevan Shavishvili also added to the Coyotes' success, earning a hard-fought 8-6 win in her singles match.

Coach Zinchenko had some thoughts after his first weekend of competition with the Coyotes,

"We had some great wins on and off the court. The first fall tournament of the year is never easy and I'm happy with the way the whole team competed today. Ladies showed some real grit!
Now we have just a few days to recover, get some practice, and get back on the road for the next invitational."

The Coyotes will look to build on this momentum as they head to Minneapolis to compete in the Gopher Invite next weekend.
