MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The South Dakota women's tennis team opened the Gopher Invite with a strong showing on Friday, earning four total victories, two in doubles and two in singles on the first day of competition in Minneapolis.
The day began at 9:00 a.m. with doubles play. The Coyotes wasted no time making an impact, as Kayleigh Didderiens and Keta Shavishvili claimed a dominant 6-1 victory in their opening match. Shortly after, Anna Medvyedyeva and Natalia Alves De Lima followed suit, also winning their match convincingly, 6-1.
Singles competition began at 12:30 p.m., where Shavishvili continued her impressive form, cruising to a straight-sets win, 6-0, 6-1. Selena Bird capped off the day for South Dakota with a hard-fought three-set victory, prevailing 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., beginning the day once again with doubles play.
