VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota softball used a fast start and a dominant pitching effort to earn a 14–0 five-inning victory over Mount Marty Tuesday afternoon at Nygaard Field.
The Coyotes struck early, scoring six runs in the first inning to take control. After
Kiya Johnson reached on an error and moved into scoring position,
Madison Evans delivered an RBI single to open the scoring.
Brooke Carey followed with a double before
Delaney White drove in two runs with a double to right center. Additional RBI hits from
Camryn Kersten and
Sara Iburg helped South Dakota build a 6–0 lead after the opening frame.
South Dakota kept the offense rolling in the second inning. Evans tripled to right center and later scored on a Carey RBI single.
Ella McGee added an RBI double before
Autumn Iversen drove in two more with a single to center, pushing the Coyotes' advantage to 10–0.
The Coyotes added four more runs in the third inning. Evans doubled and later scored on a Carey groundout before Iversen delivered again with a two-run triple down the left-field line. Iversen later scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring at 14–0.
Iversen led the offense with five RBIs, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Evans also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Carey added two hits and two RBIs, while McGee, White and Iburg each drove in runs as part of the Coyotes' 12-hit performance.

Madison Evans struck out three in 1.2 innings before
Campbell German,
Peyton Paulsen and
Aubrey Lensmeyer finished the game, limiting Mount Marty to just three hits.
