PREVIEW: Yotes Take on Power 4 Competition in Columbia

VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota will travel to Columbia, Mo. to compete with Power 4 opponents at the Mizzou Bye-Week Series. 
 
All four games can be followed via live stats which are linked below, as well as on the schedule page. All games against Mizzou will be available on the SEC Network to watch.

LAST TIME OUT: COLORADO CLASSIC
The Yotes went 2-2 last weekend while competing in Fort Collins and Greeley, Colo. where they split doubleheaders with both Colorado State and Northern Colorado. 
 
Abi Brown led the offensive effort for the Yotes going 7-11 for a .636 average with a double, triple, and home run, plus five RBIs. She also had three multi-hit games plus two multi RBI games. She was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the week following those four games. 
 
Madison Evans earned both wins with a 3.00 ERA over her two appearances and recorded two complete game wins. She tossed 15 strikeouts in her 14.0 innings pitched. 

The Yotes also played a Tuesday game against Mount Marty earlier this week where they won 14-0 in five innings. Autumn Iversen led the offense with five RBIs, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Evans also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Brooke Carey added two hits and two RBIs, while Ella McGee, Delaney White and Sara Iburg each drove in runs as part of the Coyotes' 12-hit performance.

In the circle, four South Dakota pitchers combined for the shutout. Evans struck out three in 1.2 innings before Campbell German, Peyton Paulsen and Aubrey Lensmeyer finished the game, limiting Mount Marty to just three hits.
 
AT THE PLATE
  • Overall, Carey continues to lead the offense with a .430 average with 34 hits, nine doubles and 14 multi-hit games
  • Evans is second in average at .321 and has the most runs scored on the team at 17 and is tied for most triples at three. 
  • White had knocked in the most runs at 15 this season and continues to be a threat in the middle of the line up with six doubles and a home run
  • Iburg and Kiya Johnson lead the team in stolen bases at four
IN THE CIRCLE 
Evans leads the pitching staff with a 3.96 ERA and sits at 5-7 on the season with 76.0 innings pitched. She has thrown seven complete games already this season. She has given up 67 runs, but only 43 have been earned. 
 
ABOUT IOWA STATE
Reagan Bartholomew leads the team in batting average at .420 while Jessie Clemons has the most hits (30), runs (23), and doubles (10). Tatum Johnson has the most home runs at five and RBIs at 26. 
 
In the circle, Ava Mullen leads the way with a team-low ERA of 3.99. Lauren Schurman has thrown 51.1 innings as the team high with 35 strikeouts. 
 
The Cyclones have a .333 team batting average and have produced 157 runs on 203 hits. They enter the weekend at 13-9. 
 
VS IOWA STATE
USD is 1-8 when playing Iowa State with the last meeting in 2019 where they met at the Lopes Up Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. on March 3. They lost 1-2 in a nine inning game. 
 
ABOUT MINNESOTA
Minnesota split a pair of midweek games earlier this week against Ohio Valley Conference opponents. The Gophers opened the trip with a 5-0 victory over SIUE on Tuesday, powered by home runs from Jae Cosgriff and Scarlett Kuhnwhile Macy Richardson and Natalie Susa combined for the shutout. Minnesota closed the trip Wednesday with a 3-0 loss to Lindenwood.
 
Minnesota is 9-16 overall this season. 
 
VS MINNESOTA
South Dakota is 0-7 when playing Minnesota with the last matchup taking place in 2017 as a double header in Minneapolis, Minn. USD lost both games in five innings with scores of 0-8 and 0-12. 
 
ABOUT MIZZOU
Mizzou enters the weekend at 8-16, most recently picking up a 8-0 win in five innings over UT Martin yesterday (March 11). 
 
Abby Hay leads the offense in average at .370 with 27 hits, eight doubles, a triple, and three home runs. Sidney Forrester provides the power with four doubles and five home runs on the season and has reached base by walk 15 times. 
 
Cierra Harrison has pitched 47.1 innings for Mizzou and has the most wins at four. Marissa McCann and Abby Carr both have two wins and pitch significant innings for the Tigers. 
 
VS MIZZOU
USD last played Missouri once in 2017 and fell to 0-1 in all time matchups against them. The game was in Tempe, Ariz. on February 17 and the Yotes lost 7-11.
