SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After the opening week of South Dakota's track and field outdoor season,
Delaney Smith has earned USD's first outdoor Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week honor, winning the women's field honor.
Smith started her outdoor season with a strong performance at the Wildcat Classic, taking runner-up in the hammer throw with a 190-1 (57.94m). Smith is ranked 22
nd in the NCAA West Region and 50
th in the NCAA so far this season. She also competed in the discus and the shot put over the weekend, placing fourth in the shot and eighth in the discus.
She was an outdoor all-Summit League honoree in the hammer throw last year, and has started out the season with the best mark in the Summit League so far. This is Smith's first outdoor weekly honor and second total.
