Started at linebacker in the season opener vs. Montana and played in the first three games of the season before a nagging injury forced him to shut down...had a career-high 13 tackles at Montana and finished with 16 tackles on the season.

2011
Saw action in three games this past season as a reserve linebacker.

2010
Played in USD's first two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury...made one tackle...played as a reserve linebacker and on special teams.

2009
Appeared in Coyote wins over William Penn and Drake...made one tackle....named USD's Scout Defensive Player of the Week once and Scout Special Teams Player of the Week twice during the season.

2008
Redshirted his first season in the USD program....was named USD's Scout Defensive Player of the Week twice.

Prep
Butler was a three-time letterwinner for Cheyenne High School and was named a starter for the Nevada All-Star game..finished his career with a pair of school records and multiple postseason awards...set the Cheyenne all-time record for tackles (437) and sacks (48)...in 2007 he posted 21 sacks as he was named Sunset Division Defensive Player of the Year...following his senior campaign he was named to the All-Sunset Division first team, Nevada All-State first team, the Review Journal All-State second team and the NevadaPrepReports.com Southern Nevada All-Valley Team...Butler also earned all-conference recognition his junior and sophomore seasons.
