Started the first 11 games of the season at safety before missing the season finalé … finished fourth on the team in tackles with 60 … tied for the team lead in both interceptions (2) and pass breakups (8) … both interceptions came in the team’s game against Houston Baptist (9/14) … had a career-high 13 tackles, including 12 solo stops, against Western Illinois (11/2)

2018
Started the first three games of the season at safety before sustaining an injury that kept him out of all but one game the rest of the year … was the team’s second-leading tackler through those first three games with 18 … intercepted a pass in each of the first two games of the season … forced two fumbles in the season opener at Kansas State, the second of which setup a last second field goal attempt that would have forced overtime (9/1) … led the Coyotes with eight tackles against the Wildcats including one for loss ... 2017
One of 33 Coyotes who competed in all 13 games and one of 18 redshirt freshmen who earned playing time … started four of the final five games of the season at safety … was the team’s second-leading tackler over the final five games of the season … totaled 64 tackles, the third-highest tally on the team … led the Coyotes with 13 tackles on special teams … led the team and ranked eighth in the Valley with three interceptions … also had 2.0 tackles-for-loss including a sack and was credited with two pass breakups … named to the first team of HERO Sports Freshman All-America Team … had two interceptions in his collegiate debut in the season opener at Drake and returned the first for a 9-yard touchdown (9/2) … led the team in tackles in back-to-back weeks against UNI (9) and No. 6 North Dakota State (11) … had 10 tackles and was credited with the game-winning, forced fumble at the goal line in the closing seconds of the team’s FCS playoff win at No. 22 Nicholls (11/25)

Redshirted … MVFC Conference Honor Roll member

Prep
Powell accumulated more than 1,500 receiving yards with 27 touchdown grabs and 17 interceptions for King College Prep ... earned all-conference and all-city honors for the Jaguars and was invited to the city-wide all-star game ... was on the honor roll every semester
