William G. Hillenbrand to receive Dan Lennon Award
William G. Hillenbrand of Tucson, Ariz., was selected as the seventh recipient of the Dan Lennon Award. He will be presented the award on March 24, 1997. Through a generous gift by Hillenbrand, an eight-lane 200-meter track was installed in the DakotaDome during the summer of 1996 and officially named the Mildred J. Hillenbrand Memorial Track. Hillenbrand began his personal history in Batesville, Ind., where Hillenbrand Industries was located. Hillenbrand Industries was a Fortune 500 company. His career included positions with Hillenbrand Industries as well as entrepreneurial ventures in Indiana and Arizona. He served as chairman of the Board of Advisors, Inc., of Tucson and Scottsdale, Ariz., and Chicago, Ill. In addition to scholarship gifts, Hillenbrand was particularly generous in the development of recreation, fitness, physical education and sports programs. He received an honorary degree from USD in December 1996. He also supported the University of Arizona and Indiana University.
