VERMILLION, S.D. - South Dakota Coyotes Head Basketball Coach Dave Boots has today (July 17) announced that Andy Markowski has been named a fulltime assistant men's basketball coach.
"Andy (Markowski) has been a valuable member of our staff and I am pleased that he will continue providing outstanding coaching and knowledge of college basketball to this program. His knowledge of the game and recruiting ability is important to the success of this program," said Boots.
Markowski, who has spent the past two years as a graduate assistant for South Dakota, has begun duties as the top assistant for Dave Boots, the five-time North Central Conference Coach of the Year. He replaces Shane Murphy who took the head coaching position at the University of Sioux Falls earlier this summer. Markowski has been part of a basketball program that has won three-straight North Central Conference championships.
A two-year captain and three-time academic all-Big 12 Conference forward for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Markowski participated in the NCAA Tournament with Nebraska in 1998. He ranks among the top-10 players all-time at Nebraska in games played with 124, while finishing his career with 603 points, 568 rebounds, 147 assists, 115 steals and 43 blocked shots.
Markowski was a first-team all state performer at Ord (Neb.) High School where he set records in eight categories.
