The South Dakota women's tennis team split a pair of matches this past weekend on the road. The Coyotes upended Missouri Western, 5-4, at St. Joseph, Mo., on Saturday. USD fell to UNO, 9-0, on Sunday. USD is now 3-3 on the season.
Against Missouri Western,
Maya Ristic (Vermillion, S.D.) won her fifth straight No. 1 singles match to open the season and lead USD to a 5-4 win over Missouri Western on Saturday, March 27. Ristic defeated Mary Pankiewicz, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. USD also received wins from
Rachel Kludt (Huron, S.D.) and
Rochelle Otto (Storm Lake, Iowa), and also won two of three doubles matches against the Griffons. Against UNO, Ristic dropped her first match of the season as USD fell, 9-0. No. 3 singles,
Jacklyn Engels (Watertown, S.D.) nearly pulled off a win against UNO, falling to Micaila Spalding, 6-4, 6-7 (8-6) and 10-12.
