Edwards Named NCC Outdoor Track and Field Outstanding Athlete; Huber Earns Coach of the Year Honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Senior Brianne Edwards of the South Dakota women's track and field team was named the Outstanding Women's Athlete for the North Central Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 7-8 in Fargo, N.D., according to an announcement Monday by the league office.

In addition, USD women's coach Lucky Huber was selected NCC Outdoor Coach of the Year, guiding the Coyotes to their first outdoor NCC title since 1998.

Edwards and Huber claimed the same awards during the indoor season. Both the Outstanding Athlete and Coach of the Year awards were determined by a vote of the conference's track and field coaches.

Edwards, a native of Spearfish, S.D., won the heptathlon at the NCC Multi-Events Championships April 26-27 in Fargo, scoring a school-record 5,105 points. At the outdoor championships, Edwards won the 100-meter hurdles (14.11), took second in the triple jump (40-11.75) and fourth in the long jump (18-10).

Huber, who is in his 10th year as head women's coach at USD, has been named NCC Coach of the Year eight times in his career. The outdoor title was South Dakota's third under Huber, breaking a five-year stretch of consecutive second-place finishes. In all, he has directed the Coyotes to six conference titles (three indoor, three outdoor).
