TOKYO, Japan –
Marleen Mülla earned a chance to compete on one of the biggest stages in the world early Monday morning in Japan (Sunday evening in the U.S.), partaking in the World Athletics (Track & Field) Championships.
A part of Group A for the women's pole vault qualification round, Mülla cleared the opening height of 13-11 ¼ (4.25 meters) before bowing out of the competition at the second bar of 14-7 ¼ (4.45m). Mülla earned her spot by winning the Estonian National title this summer, her sixth, and holding a high enough world ranking, where she is 32
nd.
Now, Mülla will shift her attention to her senior year at South Dakota. Mülla, a five-time all-American, needs one all-American honor to tie fellow vaulters Emily Grove, Helen Falda, and
Gen Hirata with six honors, the most at the Division I level by a Coyote woman, and needs two honors to tie Chris Nilsen for the most by any Coyote at the D-I level.
