MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -- Tyler Wetering won the mile run to lead a strong performance by the South Dakota Men's Track and Field Team at the Gold Country Snowshoe Open held at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse in Minneapolis on Friday (Feb. 18).

Wetering of Sioux Falls, S.D., picked up the Coyotes' only title at the meet, although South Dakota had several top-five finishes. Wetering clocked a 4:14.99 to win the mile run while Tony Turgeon of Sioux Falls, S.D., was fourth in 4:18.16.

The Coyotes had a pair of top-five finishes in the 200-meter dash, including a fourth-place finish by Andrew Edwards of Colfax, Iowa, who clocked a 22.96. David Coley of Omaha, Neb., was fifth in 22.98.

USD's 4x400-meter relay was second in 3:22.35.

Cale Ellison of Burlington, Wyo., was fifth in the long jump, going 21'7.25.

Derek Gearman of Lennox, S.D., was second in the triple jump with a jump of 46'11.75. He also finished fourth in the high jump with a season-best jump of 6'10.75.

Nick Hageman of New Vienna, Iowa, was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 55'6.50 while Dan Tolsma of Vermillion, S.D., finished fifth with a throw of 54'8.
