SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Leita Rolfe and Jill Smolczyk of the South Dakota Women's Swimming and Diving Team have received the North Central Conference weekly honors for swimming and diving, according to an announcement by the league office on Tuesday.
Rolfe, a junior All-American from Newcastle, Wyo., was named the NCC Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second consecutive time and her fourth time overall this season. She also was honored on Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Jan. 15 and Jan. 23.
Rolfe broke her own school record (meters) in the 400 IM with a clocking of 5:05.32 (old mark, Rolfe, 5:11.52, 2005) in the Coyotes' 161-82 NCC dual meet decision over St. Cloud State on Jan. 20 at the DakotaDome. Rolfe also won the 200 breaststroke (2:42.74) and swam the second leg on the winning 200 medley relay (2:03.57). Rolfe had "B" cuts (provisional marks for the NCAA Division II Championships) in both the 400 IM and the 200 breaststroke.
Smolczyk, a junior All-American from Omaha, Neb., was named the NCC Women's Athlete of the Week for Diving for the third time in 2006-07 (Nov. 14, Dec. 5, Jan. 23). Smolczyk won both boards in the fourth-ranked Coyotes' dual meet win against St. Cloud State on Jan. 20. Smolczyk won the 1M board with 259.85 points and the 3M board with 269.15 points with both being qualifying scores for the NCAA Division II Meet.
The South Dakota Swimming squads will head to the Minnesota Challenge in Minneapolis, Minn., on Jan. 26.27. Meanwhile, the USD Diving Teams will host the USD Diving Invitational on Jan. 26-27 at the DakotaDome.
