Grimsley and Hall Named to All-NCC Men's Basketball Team; Cain Named Honorable Mention

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The North Central Conference (NCC) has released its 2007-08 All-NCC men's basketball team. The University of South Dakota's Dylan Grimsley and Eric Hall have been selected to the team while Tyler Cain has been named honorable mention. The All-NCC team was announced this morning from the conference office in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Minnesota State's head coach Matt Margenthaler was selected as the NCC Coach of the year, Atila Santos was named the league MVP and Jake Morrow was named the Freshman of the Year. Denny Johnston, from Nebraska-Omaha, was picked as the Defensive Player of the Year and Augustana's Corey McIntosh was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Grimsley (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa) led the Coyotes in scoring this season with 14.8 points per game and averaged 5.7 rebounds per game. During the conference season he posted 15.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He shot a career-best from floor shooting 50.6 percent (133-of-263) and from the 3-point line as he shot 50.0 percent (39-of-78). He scored in double-digits in 21 regular season games, including a season-high 27 points twice. Grimsley led the team in scoring on nine separate occasions and scored 20 or more points five times. He notched a double-double in three games. On January 19 at North Dakota he scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.

Hall (Sr., Huron, S.D.) became the 36th Coyote in school history to record 1,000 points in a career. During the regular season and NCC Tournament he tallied 395 points, moving him to 11th all-time in career scoring with 1,366 points. This season he averaged 14.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He stepped his efforts up in league play, averaging 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds. Hall had one of the best games of his career this season on February 16 at St. Cloud State. He scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds and had stretch where he scored 14-straight points for USD. In that game he was 6-of-8 from the three-point line and made all eight of his free throws. Over the last six games he has missed just one free throw, making 26-of-27 attempts from the charity stripe.

Cain (So., Rochester, Minn.) established himself as one of the nation's premier shot blockers in the nation, and it didn't take him long this season to do so. In the fourth game of the season he tied the USD single game record with nine blocked shots against Nebraska-Kearney. He would break the single game record on January 14 by blocking 10 shots against Hastings. Cain's 118 blocks this season broke his own single season record that he set last season as a freshman. With 182 career blocks he has tied Tim Hatchett (1986-90) for the USD career record. Along with averaging 4.2 blocks, he also posted 9.1 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game.

South Dakota is 22-6 and will face Northern State in the first round of the NCAA Division II North Central Region tournament in Winona, Minn., on Saturday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m.
