VERMILLION, S.D. -- Despite five event wins,
The University of South Dakota women's swimming and diving team fell short Friday against Iowa State, losing 179-118 in non-conference action in Vermillion, S.D.
Leading USD was Elizabeth Hoffman (So., Eureka, S.D.), who won the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:08.49. Hoffman also won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:32.73 and was also second in the 50-meter freestyle at 27.59.
Sallie Collins (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) was victorious in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:32.18, with teammate Meredith Howell (Sr., Lenexa, Kan.) taking second at 2:42.37. Megan Finnie (Sr., Port Orchard, Wash.) was third in that event at 2:46.97.
USD's 200-meter freestyle relay had a strong run to finish first, with Kaitlyn Jefferson (Fr., Westland, Mich.), Rita Buschbacher (Jr., Brighton, Mich.), Emily Connelly (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) and Jackie Kahnke (Fr., Shakopee, Minn.) teaming up for a winning time of 1:54.03.
Lauren Ketchum (Jr., Papillion, Neb.) also earned a victory for the Coyotes, capturing the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:24.72. Chelsea Geditz (Fr., Yankton, S.D.) was second at 2:26.14, while Marissa Keahey (So., Aberdeen, S.D.) was third at 2:39.39.
Keahey had the top time in a 100-meter freestyle race (unscored) with a time of 1:13.15.
Shannon Moceri (So., South Lyon, Mich.) was second in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:18.00, with Coyote teammate Collins taking third at 1:18.65. Moceri was also second in the 200-meter breaststroke at 2:51.84.
Finnie was third in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:51.96, while Connelly was third in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:11.68. Katie Hines (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa) was third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:30.78.
Jefferson was third in the 100-meter freestyle at 1:02.24. Jessica Jackson (Fr., Waukesha, Wis.) was third in the 1-meter diving at 204.40, while Hannah Roetzel (Jr., Newcastle, Wyo.) was third in the 3-meter diving at 204.80 for USD.
The next action for the USD women is at home on Friday, Nov. 6 against Northern Iowa. The Coyote women will then be in action on Nov. 7 at Nebraska. The USD women's and men's teams will be in action on Nov. 12 at Wisconsin-Green Bay.
