USD Swimming and Diving Teams Picked 4th in Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. -- The University of South Dakota swimming and diving teams were each picked fourth in the 2009-10 Summit League Preseason Coaches poll, the league announced on Tuesday.

The USD men were picked fourth out of the seven teams. The Coyotes finished with 19 points, just ahead of in-state rival South Dakota State. Oakland was picked to win the men's competition with 36 points, followed by Centenary (28) and Eastern Illinois (26).

The USD women were picked fourth as well. The Coyotes finished with 20 points in the voting. Oakland is picked to win the women's competition, with Western Illinois (30 points) second and South Dakota State (21).

USD's swimming and diving teams are entering their fifth season under Coach Jason Mahowald and Assistant Coach Anthony Harris.

The Coyote swimming and diving teams open their 2009-10 season at home on Oct. 17 against North Dakota.

The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships are set for Feb. 18-20 in Indianapolis, Ind.
