VERMILLION, S.D. - The South Dakota track and field programs have announced their 2011-12 schedule. The Coyotes will host four indoor meets and an outdoor meet, along with competing against some of the top competition in the nation at several road events.
The 2011-12 season will mark the Coyotes' first as members of the Summit League.
South Dakota will host the Red/White Intrasquad meet on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the DakotaDome. The Coyotes' indoor season officially kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 14 at home with the annual Alumni Meet.
The Coyotes will then compete at the Jack Johnson Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Jan. 20-21, and will follow that with the Bill Bergan Invite at Iowa State on Jan. 28.
South Dakota returns home for the John Dalton Invitational on Feb. 2 before going to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Feb. 3-4 in Lincoln, Neb. South Dakota heads back to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 10-11.
The Coyote teams host the South Dakota Twilight meet on Feb. 17, giving them one final tune-up prior to the Summit League Indoor Championships, which are set for Feb. 24-25 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The outdoor season begins for the Coyotes at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State on March 16-17. Two weeks later, on March 31, the Coyotes will compete at a pair of meets - the Stanford Relays in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
South Dakota hosts its only home meet of the spring on April 6 with the Dakota Duals in Yankton, S.D. Other highlights of the outdoor season include competing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on April 19-20 and at the Kansas Relays on April 19-21 and the Long Beach State Invite on April 21.
The Coyotes will head to the prestigious Drake Relays on April 26-28 in Des Moines, Iowa, which is the site of the NCAA National Championships. They will follow that with a trip to Lincoln, Neb., on May 5 to compete at the Nebraska Invitational, which is their final action before the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
The Summit League Outdoor Championships are set for May 10-12 in Fargo, N.D., with the NCAA First Round Championships set for May 24-26 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
The NCAA National Championships are set for June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
