Coyotes put on a show in Omaha; beat Mavs 95-72

RALSTON, Neb.--South Dakota point guard Brandon Bos registered career highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Coyotes to a 95-72 win against Omaha Saturday in a Summit League contest at Ralston Arena.

South Dakota (6-8, 2-1 Summit) pieced together its best performance of the season in picking up its first road win. The Coyotes shot a season-best 58 percent from the field (34 of 59) and 52 percent from behind the arc (11 of 21). USD out-rebounded UNO 41-30.

John Karhoff had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Omaha (3-12, 0-3). Justin Simmons scored all 13 of his points in the second half and Alex Phillips added 11.

South Dakota reserve forward Eric Robertson came to Omaha with 13 points scored on the season. He had a career-high 15 points Saturday including a 4 of 4 effort from three-point range. He was 4 of 5 overall in 10 minutes of work.

Trevor Gruis had 15 points and six rebounds and Casey Kasperbauer made four 3-pointers and had 14 points for USD.

South Dakota scored on its first three possessions of the game and never trailed. Kasperbauer and Robertson hit two 3's each during a 19-7 run that made it 32-15 with 7:24 left in the first half. Gruis had 13 points in the opening stanza and the Coyotes took a 52-29 lead into halftime.

Omaha scored 17 points during the first five minutes of the second half to get within 16 points. Bos led a 13-0 USD run that put the Mavericks away. Bos totaled 13 points in the opening nine minutes of the second half. He finished 7 of 9 from the field.

South Dakota travels to Manhattan, Kan., for Monday's matchup with Kansas State. The Coyotes will then return home for Summit League contests against North Dakota State (Thursday) and South Dakota State (Saturday).
