AMES, Iowa - Megan Glisar (women's high jump), Jeff Mettler (men's 3,000-meters) and Bethany Buell (women's pole vault) all broke their own school records while winning their respective events on Saturday at the Iowa State Classic.
Glisar increased USD's women's indoor high jump record to 5-10½, breaking the old mark of 5-9¾ that she set on Jan. 26 at the Bill Hillenbrand USD Alumni Meet. The mark puts her at the top of the Summit League performance list and is 26th-best in Division I.
Mettler won the men's 3,000-meters in 8:09.82, which cut five seconds off the previous USD record of 8:15:06 that he set at the Jack Johnson Invitational on Jan. 19. His time is tops on the Summit League performance list.
Buell recorded a 14-2 mark to break USD's women's indoor pole vault record of 13-11¾ that she set last weekend. Her record vault is the third-best mark in Division I and best in the Summit League.
Including Buell, USD placed three in the top-five in the women's pole vault. Madison Mills placed second with a 13-1¾ height and Hunter Wilkes placed fifth at 12-2. Emily Grove was third at 12-8 while competing unattached.
Outside of those performances, Jeff O'Connell placed fifth in the seeded men's long jump (22-11¾), Michael Burrus placed seventh in the men's 60-meter dash (6.95) and Katie Wetzstein recorded a personal best 4:56.53 in the seeded women's mile.
South Dakota will host the USD Open on Feb. 15 at the DakotaDome.
