Final Stats
ORLANDO, Fla.--South Dakota won the final three singles matches to earn a 5-2 win against Robert Morris in the team's final match of a spring break trip to Florida. The Coyotes (9-6) went 4-3 in the Sunshine State including wins in their final two.
USD won two of three doubles matches and four of six in singles play. Michelle Elkin and Veronika Makashov earned three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, that broke a 2-2 tie and clinched the match. Yamini Reddy added a 6-1, 6-4 win against Isabella Novella at No. 6 singles for good measure.
"Our ladies dug deep to win this meet and once again the team spirit was evident," said USD head coach Malcolm Gilreath. "We are going to work on a few strategic and technical areas this week and get ready for the remainder of our schedule."
Both of South Dakota's doubles wins came by an 8-3 score. Maria Tortosa and Milica Pavlovic improved to 6-6 at No. 1 doubles. Elkin and Hafsa Laraibi picked up their team-leading 11th victory at No. 2 doubles.
The Coyotes return to the court Saturday in Ames, Iowa, against Bradley.
