VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota's women's track and field team is ranked 14th in the nation according to the most recent U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) team computer rankings released on Tuesday.
The Coyotes moved up 19 spots from last week and have 46.62 points in the rankings. They are the second-best mid-major in the rankings, and rank better than 14 ACC programs, 10 Big Ten teams, nine Big 12 programs and eight SEC teams.
USD is also 83 spots better than the next best Summit League program. North Dakota State is 97th in the rankings with 0.94 points.
The team rankings are compiled by mathematical formulae based on national performance lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with team points at the NCAA Championships.
South Dakota will host the USD Open and travel to the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. Both meets will start on Friday.
