Lowery to be given Dan Lennon Award

Lowery to be given Dan Lennon Award
South Dakota track and field will present Bob Lowery of Pierre, S.D., with the 2014 Dan Lennon Award at the Dan Lennon Invitational. The 25th winner of the award, Lowery will receive it on March 24 at 3:55 p.m. in the DakotaDome. Lowery has been involved in track and field across South Dakota for over 30 years, coaching track and field at Vermillion High School for 17 years and serving on the South Dakota High School Activities Association board for 18 years. While in Vermillion, he led the Tanagers to the 1983 State A Boys' Cross Country title and the 1984 State A Boys' Track and Field title. He coached 14 individual state champions and five relay champions during his tenure. Lowery also served as the Athletic Director at VHS for nine years and was named the Athletic Director of the Year in 1994. He became part of the South Dakota High School Activities Association staff in 1994, serving as the head administrator and rules interpreter for football, wrestling, cross country, golf and track and field before retiring in 2012. Since his retirement, he has served as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at Pierre High School and as a registered track and field official for the SDHSAA. Lowery and his wife, Diane, have four children and five grandchildren.
