GREEN BAY, Wis. - Kendall Kritenbrink became South Dakota volleyball's all-time career kills leader as USD split a pair of matches at the Green Bay Country Inn & Suites Tournament on Saturday, losing to Kansas State (25-9, 25-20, 25-16) and beating tournament host Green Bay in a sweep (25-17, 25-23, 25-18). USD went 1-2 during the three-game tournament and defensive specialist Riley Haug was named to the all-tournament team.
Kritenbrink, who entered the day with 1,439 career kills, became USD's all-time kills leader by recording 13 kills against Kansas State (2-1). She passed Becky Olson (2000-03) at 1,450 kills during the third set of the match. Kritenbrink also recorded 12 kills against Green Bay (0-3) to finish the day with 1,464 career kills.
Haug earned all-tournament honors after recording 42 digs, nine assists and four service aces during the tournament. The senior averaged 4.2 digs per set and led USD in digs in each of USD's three matches during the tournament.
Kansas State swept the Coyotes in the first match of the day with the help of 36 kills, nine aces, a 7-2 advantage in blocks and just seven attack errors. USD aided Kansas State with 19 attack errors and nine serving errors.
Brooke Sassin led the Wildcats in kills with 11 while Kersten Kober led KSU defensively with 10 digs. Katie Brand tallied 28 assists.
Outside Kritenbrink's 13 kills, Audrey Reeg tallied eight kills for the Coyotes while Haug had 10 digs. Kritenbrink's nine digs were one shy of a double-double.
The Yotes rebounded with a sweep of Green Bay in the tournament's final match. South Dakota held advantages in kills (34-28) and blocks (9-4) in the match, and also benefited from 19 Green Bay attack errors.
Haug tallied 13 digs on defense for USD, setter Brittany Jessen had 29 assists, Reeg tallied six kills, and Melissa Firtko and Kritenbrink both recorded five total blocks.
No member on Green Bay had double-digit kills as Megan Powers and Shannon Hurley both led the Phoenix with seven. Jillian Bauer tallied 12 digs.
Arizona won the tournament with a 3-0 record.
South Dakota will next play Tulane at the North Dakota Tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. They will also play North Dakota later that day at 7 p.m.
