JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--Morgan Hancock had a game-tying triple with two outs in the final inning and Katie Cochran following with a game-winning single as South Dakota rallied to beat Siena 8-7 Sunday at a tournament hosted by North Florida.
South Dakota's scheduled game against Kansas earlier Sunday was cancelled due to inclement weather as was all of Saturday's slate at the tournament. The game against Siena was called after six innings due to a preset time limit of 1 hour, 45 minutes.
The Coyotes (4-5-1) scored two runs in each of the final three innings to erase a 6-2 deficit. Matley Jones hit a home run in the third inning and had an RBI single in the fourth that made it 6-4. Katie Dinning's two-run single to center in the fifth cut Siena's lead to 7-6 ahead of the heroics in the sixth.
The Saints (0-10) scored five runs in the top of the fourth, three of which came on a bases-clearing double by Paige Lloyd. Bridget Connors homered in the fifth for Siena to extend the Saints' lead to 7-4.
The Connors home run was the only run allowed by winning pitcher Madison Frain (1-2), who allowed one other hit and struck out two in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Coyote first baseman Yvon Minogue was 2-for-4 and has hit safely in all 10 games this season. Dinning had three of South Dakota's 14 hits.
South Dakota will be at Wichita State Friday through Sunday where the team will play two games against the Shockers and two against Nebraska.
