WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--South Dakota's offense pounded out 29 hits in two games Wednesday but settled for a split on its first day of the Rebel Spring Games. The Coyotes beat Fairfield 7-6 in 10 innings and lost 6-5 to Saint Joseph's in eight innings.
South Dakota third baseman Matley Jones delivered a walk-off single to center field that scored Yvon Minogue for the winning run in the bottom of the 10th against Fairfield. The Stags had one hit through five innings, but scored once in the sixth and four times in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.
Coyote catcher Allie Daly had three hits against Fairfield including a three-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the second. South Dakota led 5-1 after three innings and made it 6-1 with an RBI single by Morgan Hancock in the fourth.
Hancock hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the seventh inning against Saint Joseph's. It was her second homer in as many days. Hancock has posted two hits in each of her last three games.
Shelby Keil gave South Dakota a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth against the Hawks with a double that scored Katie Cochran, who began the inning on second base. Saint Joseph's first baseman Ashley Alden tied the game at 5-5 with a double in the bottom of the eighth and scored the winning run later in the inning on a two-out base hit by Madeline Brunck.
Minogue was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs against the Hawks before being walked in the eighth. She was 6 for 9 in Wednesday's two games and is batting .492 on the season.
South Dakota (5-12-1) is off Thursday, but continues play Friday in a 1 p.m. (CT) doubleheader at Stetson (14-5) in DeLand, Fla.
