WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--South Dakota earned a split Saturday during play at the Rebel Games. The Coyotes beat Niagara 7-3 in game one and lost 8-4 to Albany in game two.
South Dakota (6-14-1) pounded out 19 hits on the day including 11 in the opener against Niagara. Matley Jones was 3-for-6 during the two games with four RBIs and three runs scored. She's hit safely in seven consecutive games and had a 10-game hitting streak earlier in the season.
Yvon Minogue was 3-for-4 against Niagara with two doubles and two runs scored. She doubled and scored in both the first and third innings in helping the Coyotes jump out to a 7-1 lead. Jones plated Minogue with a sacrifice fly in the first and doubled her home in the third.
South Dakota scored five runs in the third. Allie Daly scored Jones with a base hit that made it 5-1. Katie Cochran scored Daly with a double and came around to score when Brooke Curtis singled behind her. Daly and Cochran both had two hits against the Eagles (0-13).
The Coyotes led Albany 3-2 before the Danes (8-7) rallied for six runs in the final inning. Alexa Toole was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which tied the game at 3-3. Maggie Cocks followed with a two-run single to make it 5-3. Cocks had three of Albany's 13 hits.
Katie Dinning was 3-for-4 with two singles and a solo homer for South Dakota. It was her second home run in as many days. Morgan Hancocks had an RBI triple in the first inning and Daly had an RBI triple in the fifth inning to help give the Coyotes their one-run lead.
South Dakota is 2-6 at the Rebel games and 2-8 during its Spring Break trip in Florida. The Coyotes take on Valparaiso and Saint Peter's Sunday before returning to campus.
