Former Coyotes take to the roads

Sioux Falls Marathon

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Former South Dakota cross country runners Bret Fransen and Benson Lang'at swept the top two spots of the Sioux Falls Half Marathon on Sunday. Coyote alumni Taylor Chapman and Andrew Duba finished first and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.
 
Fransen took the tape after 1 hour, 8 minutes and 11 seconds, recording an average mile split of 5:12. Fransen, a native of Edgerton, Minn., competed for the Coyotes from 2000 to 2005.
 
Lang'at finished runner-up in 1:14:58, six seconds ahead of third place. Hailing from Kapsabet, Kenya, Lang'at came to the United States in 2010. He spent two years at Butler Community College before transferring to South Dakota in the spring of 2012. Lang'at competed for the Coyotes from 2012 to the fall of 2013.
 
Chapman won the 5,000-meter race in 15:10.3. A 2013 graduate of Morningside College, Chapman ran cross country for the Coyotes in the fall of 2013 and middle distance for the track team in the spring of 2015 while working towards his master's degree. Chapman began duties as an academic advisor in the Student-Athlete Success Center this fall.
 
Duba, a Sioux Falls, S.D., native, took fourth in 16:13.1. Duba competed for South Dakota from 2007 to 2011. He is currently working towards his master's degree at USD and helping in the Student-Athlete Success Center.
