VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota seniors Lindsey Brown and Audrey Reeg combined for 26 kills as the Coyotes swept the Western Illinois Leathernecks  25-10, 26-24, 25-12 Saturday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

"We played clean volleyball in sets one and three," said South Dakota head volleyball coach Leanne Williamson. "Set two, Western Illinois came out and did some nice things. We didn't respond to their push well, which is something we will continue to work on going forward. Lindsey was fantastic tonight on the offensive front. We are always fighting to defend our home floor, especially going on a road swing after this.

"We enjoyed having our alumni in town today to show them where the program has gone. They are a big part of why we are where we are, and we enjoyed honoring them during the match."

Reeg led the Coyotes with a match-high 15 kills. For her career, she has 1,163 kills which ranks seventh on the Coyotes' all-time kills list. She added 16 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.

Brown tallied a season-high 11 kills on 15 attacks for a hitting percentage of .667. Freshman Elizabeth Loschen had seven kills and redshirt sophomore Rachel Schmidt had six more.

Defensively, sophomore libero Lauren Mattison recorded a match-high 22 digs. Redshirt junior middle blocker Meagan Kerns tallied two block assists and one solo block.

Altogether, the Coyotes tallied five services aces to the Leatherneck's one. Mattison and sophomore outside hitter Hayley Dotseth tallied two apiece and Jessen added one more. USD also outhit WIU .315 to .103.

South Dakota started the first set by scoring five straight points and Western Illinois took a timeout. Reeg tallied back-to-back kills to start the match and Dotseth and Kerns each added one. The Coyotes pushed the lead to ten, 13-3, and Western Illinois took their second timeout. During the run, Schmidt swatted down two kills while Brown and Reeg added one apiece. South Dakota kept the pressure on Western Illinois and won the first set 25-10.

In the second set, South Dakota jumped out to a 10-5 lead as five different Coyotes recorded a kill. USD was up 19-14, but Western Illinois went on a 10-4 run to take a 24-23 lead.
