Bergner named to Academic All-District Team
 
VERMILLION, S.D.—University of South Dakota senior punter and place-kicker Miles Bergner has been named to the Division I Academic All-District Team announced Thursday by CoSIDA. It is the first such honor for Bergner, a theatre and criminal justice double major who carries a 3.53 grade point average. Bergner is one of eight Division I punters who will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors to be announced Dec. 1.
 
Bergner is the second-leading punter at the FCS level and ranks eighth in Division I overall with a 46.2-yard average. His net average of 40.2 ranks fifth at the FCS level. He's pinned 11 punts inside the 20 and 35 percent of his punts are of 50 yards or more (17 of 48).
 
Bergner was nominated as a punter, but has been just as solid in his place-kicking duties. He is the FCS' active leader in career field goals made with 56. He has made 14 of 16 this season and 24 of his last 27 field goal attempts dating back to last season. Bergner is perfect on extra points (31 for 31) and has 19 touchbacks on kickoffs.
 
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form. An athlete must have completed one full calendar year at his institution and reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
