2016 Tulsa Duels Meet ResultsTULSA, Okla.—South Dakota senior
Kyle McKelvey and junior
Jet Moreland won the shot put and javelin, respectively, at the Tulsa Duels held at the Hurricane Track and Soccer Stadium.
McKelvey threw the shot put 58 feet, 9 ¼ inches to win. McKelvey set the outdoor school record of 63-1 ½ in 2014 before redshirting last spring.
Moreland launched the javelin 178-10 on his first throw to win the event.
Senior
Meghan Dennis placed second in the javelin with a throw of 147-10. Dennis holds the school record of 159-3 from 2013. South Dakota placed six javelin throwers in the top-10 of the event with throws past 100 feet. Junior
Amelia Miller placed fourth, senior
Janelle Noga took sixth, freshman
Hailey Axtell was seventh, junior
Elizabeth Szymonski was eighth and sophomore
Alli Lake was ninth.
Dennis also took third in the discus, recording a mark of 147-6 on her first throw. Senior
Riley Johnson finished sixth and freshman
Jacy Embray took seventh.
Junior
Dustin Valind finished runner-up in a pair of events. He took second behind McKelvey in the shot put with a throw of 51-3. Valind also placed second in the discus with a throw of 160-6. Sophomore
Ethan Fenchel took fourth in the discus while freshman
Liam Hennessy was fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put.
Junior
Danielle Waldner threw 50-2 for second in the shot put. Waldner also holds the school record of 50-6 ¾ in the event. Senior
Kayla Johnson placed third, freshman
Mary Wester took fourth and Embray was sixth.
South Dakota track and field has a bye weekend for the Easter holiday, resuming competition March 31 at the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational in Austin, Texas.
