Grove, Brigham take 15th in rainy Eugene

NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore.—South Dakota senior Emily Grove and junior Emily Brigham finished the collegiate season tied for 15th in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at a rainy Hayward Field Thursday.

Grove and Brigham were two of sixth athletes to tie for 15th place at 13-3 ½ in the women's pole vault. All six athletes cleared the opening bar of 13-3 ½ on their second attempt while missing all three attempts at 13-9 ¼. Only 10 athletes in the field cleared 13-9 ¼.

Arkansas freshman Alexis Weeks captured her second pole vault title of 2016 with a height of 14-9. Weeks won the indoor title in March.

Grove, a Pontiac, Ill., native is a four-time first-team All-American. Grove captured a Summit League title with an outdoor best 14-2 ½ that broke the championship record. A native of Shawnee, Kan., Brigham qualified for her first-ever NCAA Championships after clearing a season best 13-6 ¼ at the NCAA West Preliminaries.

South Dakota senior Teivaskie Lewin took 21st in the 110 hurdles Wednesday.

Grove, recently granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA due to medical reasons, will join Brigham with one outdoor season remaining with a chance to return to Eugene in 2017.
