MINNEAPOLIS–South Dakota junior
Shanice Cannigan captured the pentathlon with a league-leading mark of 3,832 points to lead the Coyotes on day one of the Jack Johnson Classic at the Minnesota Fieldhouse on Friday.
Cannigan's score is 58 points shy of her own school record mark, but moves her to ninth in the nation this season. She led the way in three of the five individual competitions. Cannigan leaped a personal best 19-1 ¼ in the long jump, clocked 8.76 seconds in the 60 hurdles and cleared 5-6 ½ in the high jump.
In the only non-multi event of the day, South Dakota placed three in the top-five of the women's pole vault. Junior
Emily Brigham took gold with no misses leading up to 12-11 ¾. Senior
Madison Mills placed third at the same height based on misses. Freshman
Makiah Hunt jumped a season best 12-6 to tie for fourth place.
The men's heptathlon wrapped up its first day of events Friday with three events remaining tomorrow. Sophomore
Hunter Leighton and freshman
Jordan Fujan are in eighth and ninth place, respectively, in the standings.

Haley Bruggeman took ninth in the pentathlon with 2,926 points.
The Coyotes continue competition Saturday at 10 a.m. inside Minnesota Fieldhouse.
