Day 1 Results
ROCHESTER, Minn. —The South Dakota swimming and diving team had eight top-three finishes to start off day one of the Rochester Invite inside the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium Friday.
The women started off the meet placing second in the 800-yard freestyle with
Taylor Kidd,
Quinn Fawcett,
Charlie Mechling and
Hannah Tietjen finishing with the time of 7 minutes, 38.80 seconds.
In the 400-yard medley relay, South Dakota took second and third place. The relay team of
Sabrina Sabadeanu,
Kassidie Cornell,
Morgan Holt and
Theresa Godlewski took second with a time of 3:50.13.
Kathleen Juffers,
Kelly Howell,
Hannah Gupton and Mechling took third with a finishing time of 3:51.88.
In the preliminaries for the 500-yard freestyle, the top 24 swimmers move on to finals Saturday and the Coyotes went one-two with
Morgan Holt coming in first with a time of 5:01.60 and Fawcett right behind her with 5:04.54. Alongside Holt and Fawcett,
Jordan Thielbar, Kidd and
Hannah Lange advanced to the finals.
On the men's side, the 400-yard medley relay team consisting of
Ben Kopp,
Elbert Chuang,
Jared Thorson and
Eric Erlenmeyer took second place with a time of 3:22.88.
The 800-yard freestyle relay was claimed by relay members
Steve Wascom,
Josh Sorbe,
Wyatt Thompson and
Hunter Padgett with a finishing time of 6:51.85.
In the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries for the men, Padgett finished first with the time of 4:34.75 and Sorbe came in fourth with a 4:45.14 finishing time. Padgett, Sorbe and nine other Coyotes advance to the finals Saturday.
The Coyotes return to the pool for day two of the Rochester Invite Saturday with preliminary races starting at 9:30 a.m.
