ROCHESTER, Minn. —The Coyotes set four school records and took first out of 12 teams at the Rochester Invite inside the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium Saturday and Sunday.
For the women,
Morgan Holt's preliminary time of 2 minutes, 3.27 seconds in the 200-yard butterfly set a new school record. In the finals, Holt ended up winning the event with a finishing time of 2:03.77.
The 200-yard medley relay consisting of
Sabrina Sabadeanu,
Kelly Howell,
Hannah Gupton and
Theresa Godlewski set another school record with a finishing time of 1:44.53.
For the Coyote men,
Eric Erlenmeyer's 100-yard individual medley preliminary time of 51.68 seconds earned him a new school record. In the finals, Erlenmeyer swam a 52.60 to place him third overall.
Hunter Padgett tied the school record in his 100-yard freestyle preliminary race with a time of 45.38. In the finals, Padgett tied for second with a time of 45.56.
Other notable finishes Saturday for the Coyotes included
Quinn Fawcett winning the 500-yard freestyle finals with the time of 5:00.91 and claiming second of the 200-yard freestyle in a finishing time of 1:54.77.
Godlewski swam a 57.22 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn second place and swam the first leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that took second with a time of 1:36.62. Other members of the relay included Sabadeanu, Gupton and
Kathleen Juffer.
South Dakota took four of the top six places in the 100-yard individual medley.
Abby Hollub finished second (59.70),
Anna VerKuilen took fourth (59.97),
Charlie Mechling finished in fifth (1:00.76) and Howell finished right behind her to claim sixth (1:01.05).
On the men's side, Padgett won the 200-yard freestyle with a swim of 1:39.07. Padgett also swam the first leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that took second with a time of 1:23.10. Other relay members included
Elbert Chuang,
Gray Determan and Erlenmeyer.
The Coyotes had three in the top five of the 100-yard breaststroke.
James Ryan finished in second place (56.41),
Steve Wascom took third (56.81) and
Elbert Chuang came in fourth (57.07).
On the diving board for USD,
Sarah Schank took the one-meter dive with the score of 428.95. Schank's score this weekend on the one-meter dive places her second on the Coyote Top 10 list for one-meter in 11 dives.
Haley Pederson took third in the one-meter with the score of 399.25. Pederson's score places her fifth on the Coyote Top 10 list.
For the men,
Isaac Morris took second in the three-meter dive with a 500.30 score which places him second on the Coyote Top 10 list for three-meter dive in 11 dives. Tristen Gens placed right behind Morris with a score of 455.15. Gens' score earns him sixth in the three-meter dive on the Coyote Top 10 list.
Sunday brought more promise for the Coyotes. For the women, Sabadeanu took the gold in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.26) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.83).
Hannah Lange captured the 1,650-yard freestyle event with a time of 17:45.22.
Jordan Thielbar finished right behind her to take second with the time of 17:52.76.
Howell took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.28.
For the South Dakota men, the 400-yard freestyle relay consisting of Padgett, Erlenmeyer, Wascom and Chuang took first with a time of 3:02.14.
Sorbe finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:33.83 with teammate
Seth Jones finishing in fourth with a finish of 16:50.56.
In the 200-yard individual medley finals,
Kenny Austin finished in second with a time of 1:56.99.
Tanner Espersen came in right behind to take third place with a time of 1:57.27
Chuang secured second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.79.
During Sunday's diving events,
Sarah Schank finished second in the three-meter dive with a score of 438.15 which places fifth on the Coyote Top 10 list for three-meter dive in 11 dives.
For the men,
Isaac Morris scored a 450.85 in the one-meter dive to capture third. Morris' score on the one-meter places fourth on the Coyote Top 10 list one-meter dive in 11 dives.
The Coyotes return to the pool Jan. 3 in Key Largo, Florida, to compete in the Orange Bowl swim meet.
