TORRANCE, Calif.–South Dakota senior
Amber Eichkorn paced the Coyote distance runners with a clocking of 34 minutes, 32.60 seconds, for 10,000 meters on Thursday at the 59th Mt. SAC Relays held at Murdock Stadium.
Eichkorn was third in her section and took 20th overall in the 10,000-meter Invitational. She was the 14th collegiate across the line in the elite race. The time tops the Summit League and moves her to 52nd in the nation.
It was Eichkorn's fourth sub-35 minute race in her career. Eichkorn set the South Dakota program record of 34:12.98 at the 2015 Mt. SAC Relays. She also clocked under 35 minutes at the 2015 NCAA Championships and the 2015 NCAA West Preliminary.
Sophomore
Megan Billington and junior
Erin Wetzstein posted top-10 finishes in the Collegiate "B" section of the 10,000 meters. Billington dropped more than a half-minute off her 10,000-meter time by clocking a personal best 35:56.29 to take fourth in the field. Billington's previous best came from her 10,000-meter debut at the Mt. SAC Relays a year ago. Wetzstein also clocked a personal best of 36:18.10, nearly a minute faster than her previous mark, to finish in 10th. The duo moves to seventh and eighth on USD's all-time charts.
The Coyotes continue competition in California with a pair of meets on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational.
