2017 USD Twilight Results
VERMILLION, S.D.–South Dakota senior
Danielle Waldner crushed her own school record in the shot put by nearly two feet at the USD Twilight on Monday evening on Gottsleben Field at Lillibridge Track Complex.
Waldner hurled the shot put 55 feet, ¾ inches, to break her own school record for the third-straight week. The senior from Redfield, S.D., was coming off a 53-5 ½ performance on Saturday at the Sioux City Relays. The latest mark moves her to 16th in the nation this spring. Sophomore
Mary Wester finished runner-up to Waldner in 42-6 ¾.
Three days after clearing NCAA-leading heights in the men's and women's pole vault, freshman
Chris Nilsen and senior
Emily Grove returned home to set new Lillibridge Track Complex facility records. Nilsen broke the record by seven inches with a clearance over 18-0 ½. Grove was perfect through her first three bars including making a new facility record of 14-9 on her first attempt. She holds the top three marks at Lillibridge. Grove also took three shots at 15-2 ¼, but was unable to clear another personal best. Senior
Emily Brigham finished runner-up on the women's side with a height of 13-5 ¾.
Junior
Jacob Barents also threw a personal best in the shot put with a heave of 59-0. The mark ranks second in program history behind Coyote alum
Kyle McKelvey. Barents also moves to 27th in the NCAA West Region and 50th in the nation.
Freshman
Zack Anderson swept the jumping events on the men's side. The Parker, S.D., native captured the high jump in 6-11 ½, the triple jump in a season best 44-1 ½ and the long jump in 22-11 ¾. Anderson's high jump mark ties him with teammate
Tyler Frank at the top of the Summit League and for 20th in the NCAA West Region.
The only other Coyote to win multiple events was sophomore
Karina Dufoe. Dufoe captured the 100 meters in 12.12 seconds and 200 meters in 25.00 seconds. Freshman
Sam Clark took the men's 100 meters in 10.91 while
Brennan Schmidt won the 200 meters in 21.98.
The Coyotes swept the top three spots of the men's discus led by sophomore
Ben Hammer tying his personal best from the weekend in 174-3. Junior
Ethan Fenchel finished runner-up in 172-11 and senior
Dustin Valind took third.
Junior
Shanice Cannigan, who now holds the top-three times recorded at Lillibridge, won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.95 seconds. Senior
Jay Cooper took home the 110-meter hurdles in 14.66 seconds.
USD swept the top three of the women's javelin behind senior
Amelia Miller's victory in 137-5. Senior
Elizabeth Szymonski and sophomore
Haley Bruggeman took second and third, respectively.
Bruggeman added a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:05.10.
Coyote distance runners swept the top-three spots in the men's and women's 1500 meters. Senior
Mach Dojiok crossed the finish in 4:05.20 to win the men's race. Sophomore
Megan Billington picked up a win in the women's race in 4:52.46.
Two days after setting a new school record in the steeplechase, sophomore
Madeline Huglen captured the 800 meters in 2:20.12. Sophomore
Eldon Warner won the men's 800 meters in 1:59.98.
Sophomores
Mario Magana and
Mallory Fine earned wins in the 400 meters. Magana crossed the finish line in 49.22 seconds while Fine clocked 1:00.37.
Fenchel added to his runner-up performance in the discus with a victory in the hammer throw, launching it 192-7. Barents took second in 184-6.
Junior
Lara Boman placed second in the hammer throw with a new personal best of 175-6. The mark moves her to fifth on USD's all-time charts.
Competing unattached,
Ashley Thompson won the triple jump with a leap of 39-5 ¼. She also finished runner-up in the long jump in 19-0 ½. Also competing unattached,
Armand Khan captured the javelin with a throw of 183-0.
The Coyotes compete at the 108th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, from Thursday through Saturday.
